More discipline, please!
BriefLetter - Issue 07/2010

An excess of freedom often obliterates the grasp of discipline and opens the floodgates to a dangerous loss of professionalism.

Noncommittalism, carelessness, ignorance, callousness, volatility and increasingly even irresponsibility are shaping the operating processes more and more, with fatal consequences. There is often talk of businesses and people, of markets and prospects, as if the norms which stand behind them and the underlying values, which shape the actions and decisions, are irrelevant. Often, these norms aren’t even missed and the consequences of actions without norms and values are not even considered.

The assumption that all of this affects predominantly politics and politicians, while totally different quality standards apply to businesses, is simply wrong.

Difficult times such as these and the break with yesterday more and more often blow the cover of those, who only were winners in the past as copycats and on the expense of others.

Which measures are necessary to return back to professionalism? How can standards for successful and responsible actions be offered, in order to produce top performances? How can we make the world a better world, after this break with the past, without become victims of illusions?

We have to convince ourselves and others, that the necessity for exercising discipline is very crucial, in order to be successful. We have to accept, that everything has to be in order. We need to take nature as an example. The Swiss executive consultant Malik draws on Creation and nature for ideas, which shape his perception of a new order, of how to successfully lead companies in the future. In the future, success is not going to happen by chance, just because the economy as a whole is pulling someone up to the top. Success requires performance from every single person. And for those who handle other people’s money carelessly and irresponsibly it is hopefully becoming more difficult to get away with it scot-free.

The new world, this world after the break at the end of this 50 year exceptional period in the First World, demands a totally new performance, which can only be achieved through strict discipline in thinking and action. This is why we are touching on the topic discipline and this is why we call for more discipline, knowing that true discipline entails liberation and in the end is liberating in a way that is not the product of a superficial spirit of the time. It is the freedom people received from Creation, to live in uniqueness. When we are aware of this, it is no longer difficult to act disciplined.
